Children have insufficient awareness of danger, so it’s necessary to reduce accidental injuries through structural design while ensuring that suspensions are securely fastened to eliminate the risk of falls.

- Essential blade guard mesh: Prioritize ceiling fans that come with built-in protective mesh. The mesh aperture should be ≤1 cm, effectively preventing children’s fingers and toys from reaching the fan blades without compromising airflow performance. The protective mesh must be made of thickened metal material with smooth edges free of burrs. The mesh should be securely attached to both the fan blades and the fan body to prevent it from detaching when pulled by children.

- Preferably choose safe fan blade materials and designs: Avoid metal blades; instead, opt for durable materials such as ABS plastic or solid wood, which are tough and less likely to break. Additionally, the edges of the blades should be rounded and smoothly polished, eliminating sharp corners to minimize the risk of scratches even if accidentally touched. It’s recommended to select fans with five or more blades—this configuration ensures smoother operation, quieter performance, and gentler airflow, preventing strong gusts from directly blowing on children and causing discomfort.

- Reinforce the suspension system: Suspension components (hooks, lifting rods, screws, and pivot pins) must be made of thickened metal with a load-bearing capacity at least twice the weight of the unit itself. These components must be securely fastened to ceiling load-bearing beams or dedicated load-bearing junction boxes. After installation, repeatedly check their firmness. It is recommended to reinforce the system every three months on a regular basis to prevent loosening or detachment caused by children’s jumping and vibrations.

Children may casually touch switches and remote controls; therefore, functional design must be employed to prevent accidental operations and simultaneously mitigate electrical safety risks.

- Prioritize remote control or app-based operation and hide physical switches: Avoid installing physical switches at heights accessible to children (below 1.2 meters). Instead, opt for ceiling fans that can be controlled via remote or a mobile app; make sure the remote is stored out of children’s reach. Some high-end models come equipped with a “child lock” feature. Once activated, this feature locks settings such as speed levels and timers, preventing children from accidentally pressing buttons to start the fan or adjusting it to high-speed settings.

- Avoid hazardous functions and operating modes: Ceiling fans should be equipped with overheat protection and overload protection features. After prolonged operation, they should automatically shut down to allow for heat dissipation, thereby preventing electrical faults. Avoid models with large gear span or extremely strong wind speeds at high settings. When using in a child’s room, it is recommended to set the fan to a medium or low speed setting, and configure the timer function to a maximum of 8 hours, thus avoiding continuous operation when no one is present at night.
